MIND PREP:

Meditation: 15 minutes

Vocals: 15 Minutes

Body Perc: 15 Minutes

Free improvisation or free music is improvised music without any rules beyond the logic or inclination of the musician(s) involved. The term can refer to both a technique (employed by any musician in any genre) and as a recognizable genre in its own right.

free improvisation is “playing without memory”

Drawing on Free Improvisation.

Bailey contends that free improvisation must have been the earliest musical style, because "mankind's first musical performance couldn't have been anything other than a free improvisation."

Free jazz allowed for radical improvised departures from the harmonic and rhythmic material of the composition – for instance, by permitting performers to ignore conventional repeating song-structures. Such music often seemed far removed from the preceding jazz tradition, even though it almost always preserved one or more central elements of that tradition while abandoning others.

Morning Readings:

Why is music called the divine art, while all other arts are not so called? We may certainly see God in all arts and in all sciences, but in music alone we see God free from all forms and thoughts. In every other art there is idolatry. Every thought, every word has its form. Sound along is free from form. Every word of poetry forms a picture in our mind. Sound alonde does not make any object appear before us.

Homage to Cage: ‘But they seemed to sit in mesmerized silence for Cage. I'd guess this was because he was so focused, so intent, so curious, so plainly listening to everything he did, listening with as much interest (and as little sense of ownership) as anyone in the audience. Which meant, to repeat the word, that he was curious about what he was doing, genuinely so. He had no agenda, but made his sounds with great delight, interested in what might come next, with no thought that he should shape it consciously. That's the kind of attention his music needs. (And rewards.)’

e small bird's grief and care,
Hear the woes that infants bear --

And not sit beside the next,
Pouring pity in their breast,
And not sit the cradle near,
Weeping tear on infant's tear?

And not sit both night and day,
Wiping all our tears away?
Oh no! never can it be!
Never, never can it be!
He doth give his joy to all:
He becomes an infant small,
He becomes a man of woe,
He doth feel the sorrow too.

Think not thou canst sigh a sigh,
And thy Maker is not by:
Think not thou canst weep a tear,
And thy Maker is not near.

Oh He gives to us his joy,
That our grief He may destroy:
Till our grief is fled an gone
He doth sit by us and moan.

Lord Byron

She Walks in Beauty

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness

HUMILITY Compassion for the children, may this lead me to a place where I can raise funds for those suffering and contribute to the establishment of peace and love between peoples.

ACCEPTANCE

It was easy to love god in all that was beautiful.

The lessons of deeper knowledge, though,

instructed me to embrace God in all things.

~St. Francis of Assisi

I completely rely on other human beings to be human..

Provide space, a creative field, for other people to express themselves.

To come into the present moment and share creative experiences of making art with a group.  Stepping back and witnessing other people’s creative contributions.

Begin with simple ideas and let others create around them.

Bring Humility, Acceptance and Faith, most important aspects of life, into the creative process.

NOTE TO MODULES

These are not compositions, these are suggested musical pathways.

These ideas have not been worked out or rehearsed they are a series of seeds

for the player to grow from.

If you hear or feel a variation, take it, see where it leads you, and thenc

come back as you wish. It may be worth exploring some of the material
